New Business:
A. Jennifer Shapiro, Lifestyle Essentials
  • Average daily attendance thus far has increased by 4%
  • Extra challenges and activities were held in December including a Zumba party on December 16th. This party resulted in sixteen participants by the second class.
  • Upcoming events include member appreciation, a motivation presentation, and monthly health-related topics posted on the bulletin board.
  • The Biggest Loser Challenge is under way. Members have until January 31st to sign up and do their first weigh in. The challenge ends April 30th.
B. The Bicycling/Moving America Forward update
  • Michele, Stiney, Gus, and David met with the Council Committee to present the proposed draft of the plan for developing Evendale Bicycle Master Plan.  Gus successfully fielded many of Council’s questions as a bicycle rider and from a law perspective. Stiney was able to support the plan from a councilman’s point of view.
  • The council committee gave approval for the group to move forward with Phase 1 of the plan. This phase seeks to assess interest level and also gain participants and support from Evendale’s residents and business community.
  • The Evendale Bicycle Steering Committee is fine-tuning their goals and objectives with the help of URS Corporation. This engineering company will help the Recreation Commission/Rec Department produce an in depth analysis of the project. When Michele receives the final copy of the master plan, she will forward it to commission members.
  • A survey will be developed and circulated to Evendale residents to find out their bike path interests and desires.  David mentions the forthcoming survey in the February newsletter.
  • URS and OKI are helping to guide the bigger picture (where one community’s trail ends, the adjoining community’s trail starts) via the multijurisdictional bike initiative (BAGERS workgroup).
  •  Blue Ash has developed paths in connection with local businesses. Sharonville also has a bike plan in association with Sharon Woods and Cincinnati Parks/Recreation.  Sharonville is developing bike plan in other areas as well.  We hope to follow the lead of our adjoining communities.
  • The BAGERS next meeting is on February 3rd; and the subcommittee will keep Recreation Commission updated.  Plan to invite Kristen Maiden since a significant portion of the BAGERS meeting will involve National Bike Month (May).  Other events to promote biking are being planned. The police department, fire department, and Evendale Elementary are already on board to participate in these events and also to serve on the Stakeholders Committee.
  • Stiney has an upcoming meeting with a person from General Electric Evendale (Ryan Brown) who wants to do some creative planning along Mill Creek and the east acres.

Old Business:
Pool Leak
  • Testing Testing is not currently happening at the pool. David may test other areas after the 2010 season. A review of the water and electric bills (from the Public Works Department) for the last few years does not show any significant variance.

Director’s Report:
Pool Update
  • Static water testing shows little water loss; thus the suspected source of the leak remains with the return lines and the water slide. According  to SwimSafe Pool Management, the loss of water is approximately 20,000 gallons per day, so it is worth tracking down. As we do each year, the main joints will be caulked before the pool is filled.
  • The pool boiler (heater) will be replaced this year.
  • Jon Bennett will be back as pool manager this season. Most of the 2009 guards will be back. The question was raised about shift hours and scheduling guards for more hours; there are always plenty of hours available through substitution. The large total number of guards is needed or we will be under-staffed later in the season.
  • The commission contact list was passed around for members to update their information.
  • New elliptical units and cardio bikes were ordered and have been delivered. The comments have all been positive. The former pieces will be sold off  by sealed bid.
  • The 2009 revenue reports was reviewed by commission.
  • The Aquagaitor in the indoor spa is down; the Ferno repairman should be in the week  of February 8th to work on it.
  • Goals and objectives should be emailed to David for the February meeting.                                                        work more with Gorman Heritage Farm; everyone is encouraged to attend the upcoming open houses.
  • Thank you was extended to Alex Mosley for his dedication and input during his time as a recreation commission member. He has continued to keep the bar high for those who follow as Phi’s commission representative.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
  • Holiday party had a great turnout for dinner, a movie, Pump It Up, and the overnight.
  • 90-100 Entertainment books were sold this year.
  • Open houses continue to be well attended by the younger members. The governing committee is trying to address this situation. The younger members are voting with their feet by attending in large numbers; the older members need to do the same. If the younger members are acting immature, then the older members could nurture them on the proper way to behave, where the boundaries are, etc. The suggestion was made to plan events for just the Juniors and Seniors to participate in.
  • The Phi Gatlinburg trip is coming up. It has more girls attending than boys; so this will be more of a shopping trip rather than a ski trip.
Open Discussion:
  • Approximately fifteen business fitness and facility membership remain open out of the ninety total. Residents have until January 31st to renew their memberships before the ID cards are de-activated.
Motion to adjourn made at 8:49am by Stiney Vonderhaar; seconded by Wayne Mosley.
Motion approved.
